TUMU, Ghana – Former Member of Parliament for Sisala East and Deputy Sanitation Minister, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, has publicly challenged the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide evidence for a long-standing allegation that he received payment for the Tumu town roads, stating he will resign from political life if they do.

The challenge was issued during a wide-ranging interview on Radford 107.5FM on Friday, January 2, 2026, where the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator also reflected on his 2024 electoral defeat, attributing it to national economic conditions, party internal challenges, and a late smear campaign against his person.

Speaking with pointed clarity,Chinnia directly addressed the NDC, saying. “Now that the NDC is in power, I am issuing a challenge for them to prove to the entire world that I received payment for the Tumu town roads,” He stated. “Should they succeed in doing so, I am prepared to resign from my political career.” He reaffirm.

The allegation, which has circulated in political discourse, was presented by Chinnia as a definitive test for the new administration. His direct dare shifts the onus onto the current government to substantiate the claim with documented proof.

Chinnia, who lost his seat to Hon. Mohammed Issah Bataglia in the 2024 parliamentary elections, provided a three-part analysis for the outcome. “Our defeat can be attributed to three primary factors: the unfavorable economic conditions overall, the delayed dissemination of falsehoods directed towards me, and internal challenges within the NPP party,” He told listeners.

He further expressed a philosophical acceptance of the result, stating, “I acknowledge that my defeat was preordained by divine will, regardless of the matters I discussed. I remain grateful to God at all times.” Since his loss, Chinnia indicated he has withdrawn from public life, noting, “I have dedicated myself to farming and have been living a private life.” He said.

The interview also featured controversial comments regarding parliamentary terms. In a remark likely to ignite debate, Chinnia expressed a partisan view on tenure length. “It is beneficial to retain Members of Parliament for three to four terms; however, Honorable Issah Mohammed Bataglia advocates for a single term and should be granted one term. Conversely, if a Member of Parliament from the NPP is elected, they should be afforded three to four terms,” he said.

Political observers have previously cited Chinnia’s combative style as a factor in his electoral fortunes.Notably, a heated on-air exchange with NDC communicator Basintale on the EIB network’s program hosted by Serwaa Arhemaa is widely believed to have negatively impacted his public standing.
