Tuesday, December 30, 2025 – Hon. Bryan Acheampong, a prominent contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership, has directly engaged with delegates in the Sissala East Constituency on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, marking a critical phase in the party’s internal elections.
The campaign event, held at the Tumu College of Education, is part of Acheampong’s bid to secure the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections. The NPP will hold its internal presidential primary on January 31, 2026.
Dr. Acheampong was accompanied by key regional party figures, including former District Chief Executive (DCE) and 2024 NPP parliamentary candidate for Wa East, Mr. Ewura Kandia Suleman, and former Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Hon. Amidu Chinnia. Their presence underscored efforts to consolidate support at the grassroots level.
The campaign stop in Sissala East marked the third such tour of the Upper West Region by a flagbearer aspirant. Previously, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong have also campaigned in the region. The race currently includes Dr. Bawumia, Hon. Bryan Agyapong, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
This internal election follows the NPP’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2024 general elections. The upcoming primary is viewed as a pivotal step in the party’s efforts to reorganize and strategize for a return to power in 2028.
