Ghana's Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has initiated the revocation of 50 large-scale mining licenses due to failures to comply with key regulatory permits.
The affected companies were identified by a special ministerial committee for operating without valid permits from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP) tasked the committee with reviewing large-scale mining operations. This exercise aligns with the government's stated strategy to enforce legal and sustainable mining practices.
The action against large-scale miners follows a similar enforcement operation in the small-scale sector, where 278 licenses were previously revoked.
The Ministry stated the ongoing review is intended to ensure all mining activities adhere to established protocols. It confirmed further regulatory audits would continue as part of its oversight mandate.
