The Jirapa constituency is located in the Jirapa Municipality in the Upper West Region and was carved out of the then Jirapa Lambussie District in the year 2007 by Legislative Instrument 1902.
It is boarded to the North by the Lambussie Karni District, to the South by the Nadowli Kaleo District and to the West by the Lawra Municipality.
It also shares boundaries with the Daffiama - Bussie - District to the South - East and to the North - East with the Sissala West District.
The 2021 population and housing census by the Ghana Statistical Service puts the population at 91, 300 inhabitants.
The main stay of the people of the constituency is agriculture and animal production although a sizable number of people are into commerce and ply their with neighboring districts and also with neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast.
Politically, the voting population since inception of the Fourth Republic has always leaned towards the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have won all presidential and almost all parliamentary elections.
In the presidential elections, beginning from President John Rawlings through Professor John Atta Mills to President John Mahama have won every single election they stood for under the ticket of the NDC.
In the parliamentary elections, Justice Francis Korbieh, a retired appeals court judge came up as the first member of parliament under the NDC, he was succeeded by the late Edward Salia who served in various capacities including Secretary of Communication in the Provisional National Defense Committee (PNDC) under the them Flt. Lt. John Rawlings. Francis served as the third MP also on the ticket of the NDC but was unseated by Paul Derguba who lost the NDC primary and stood as an Independent Candidate.
Francis Bawana made a comeback but was unseated by incumbent MP, Cletus Seidu Dapilah the incumbent MP who is seeking a second term in office both under the ticket of the NDC in the 2024 polls.
Current MP Cletus Seidu Dapilah of the NDC comes up against Hajia Aisha Salifu of the New Patriotic Party who also doubles as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Authority who is a debutante.
