Sogakope, Ghana – A significant narcotics bust and a thwarted bribery attempt unfolded at a highway checkpoint on Friday January 23, 2026, leading to the seizure of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of one million and thirty-two thousand six hundred and fifty Ghana cedis (GH¢1,032,650).
Police at the Kpotame barrier on the Accra-Sogakope highway intercepted a black Liberty Jeep driven by suspect Charles Adenkule. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the concealed narcotics.
In a dramatic turn, authorities report that Adenkule allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with US$20,000 to secure his release and avoid arrest. The officers rejected the bribe offer and proceeded to arrest the suspect.
The suspect, Charles Adenkule, is currently in police custody and is expected to be processed and charged in accordance with the country's narcotics laws.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking along major transportation routes. An investigation is continuing to determine the intended destination and source of the illicit substance.
