The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, has publicly addressed a case involving an 18-year-old male apprentice who is alleged to have impregnated ten women within a five-month period.
Commissioner Obinabo disclosed the situation during a live social media broadcast on Wednesday. She stated that the matter was reported to her office by the teenager’s mother, who expressed deep concern over the increasing number of young women visiting their family home.
According to the commissioner's account, the young man was originally sent to Anambra State for vocational training. However, he was returned to his village after allegedly impregnating two individuals associated with his master: the master’s daughter and a salesgirl working for the same employer. Following his return, he is alleged to have impregnated eight additional women in his community.
Obinabo relayed the boy’s explanation that he persuaded the women by professing love and promises of future marriage upon achieving financial stability. The identities and specific location of those involved have not been officially released.
The commissioner stated that the complexity of the case is beyond their understanding and the immediate scope of her ministry, prompting a call for public input on how to proceed. She raised questions about whether the behavior may require psychological or other specialized evaluation and emphasized the need for intervention.
No formal legal action has been initiated at this time. The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare continues to monitor the situation as it develops. The case has sparked considerable online discussion, with many citizens advocating for counseling, medical assessment, and community-based solutions.
