Wa East, Ghana – Reconstruction of Tuasa–Jeyiri bridge is set to begin immediately after the Wa East District Chief Executive, Hon. Adamu Sayibu, formally handed over the project site to contractors on January 16, 2026.
The collapsed bridge, along with the Tiisa–Sampara bridge, was officially handed over to Astee Construction Ltd. following a site inspection early yesterday. District Chief Executive, Hon. Adamu Sayibu led the exercise, accompanied by engineers from the Feeder Roads department and the Managing Director of the construction firm.
In a statement, Hon. Sayibu emphasized the critical nature of the projects, calling them "life-saving interventions." He stated that the reconstruction will restore safe movement, drastically improve connectivity, and enhance economic and social activities for the surrounding communities that have been isolated by the collapses.
The DCE extended specific gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, for his role in securing the projects and the necessary funding for the district.
The bridge failures have severely hampered residents' access to essential services, markets, and healthcare, with conditions worsening significantly during the rainy seasons. The commencement of construction is expected to bring long-awaited relief and restore a key transportation link for the area.
Work on the two bridges is expected to commence without delay following today’s official handover ceremony.
