The Northern School of Business Senior High School (NOBISCO) in the northern region has been gutted by fire on January 28, 2026.
The fire, which broke out on the first floor of the girls dormitory, was successfully contained by Ghana National Fire Service (Station Name), limiting damages to five rooms. Firefighters swift arrival on the scene after receiving the distressed call, avert a potential catastrophe.
According to an official report filed by the Public Relations Department of the GNFS Northern Region, the school's emergency call was received by the GNFS at 1405 hours. A firefighting team, led by STNO II Sumaila, was dispatched immediately and arrived on the scene by 1414 hours. The responding team managed to confined the fire saving four other rooms on the same floor. The entire ground floor and all connecting structures were not affected by the fire.
While no casualties were recorded, the fire consumed five rooms and their contents. Also, the incident displaced students and resulted in significant personal property losses to students. The items destroyed includes clothings, textbooks, study materials, beds, and personal provisions stored by the students.
However, GNFS preliminary findings on the cause of the fire outbreak pointed directly to an electrical cause. They identified that faulty wiring in the main service line supplying power to the dormitory block generated sparks, likely exacerbated by the "surge-and-drop" pattern of intermittent power outages common in the region.
The GNFS Northern Region command, in its statement, emphasized the dual importance of rapid emergency response and proactive fire prevention. Highlighting the value of their operational readiness. Adding that the necessity for institutional administrators to prioritize regular electrical safety audits, especially for residential buildings.
The school administration together with the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) has taken measures to relocating affected students and assessing the broader electrical integrity of campus facilities.
