President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Upper West Shea Park Resource Hub in Wa, capital of the Upper West Region. The inauguration ceremony took place on Saturday January 31, 2026.
The resource hub is designed to boost the shea value chain, create jobs particularly for women and youth and enhance local economic development.
In his address, President Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to adding value to local resources and promoting sustainable industrialization in deprived regions. He stated the initiative aligns with efforts to reduce poverty and strengthen local economies.
During the event, the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Council, Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, banned the cutting down of shea trees, describing the tree as a crucial natural resource and a major source of livelihood for households.
Speaker of Parliament Alban S.K. Bagbin, present as Special Guest of Honour, praised the project as a major booster for value addition, women empowerment, and job creation. He assured stakeholders of continued government support and linked the hub to the flagship 24-hour economy program.
Local authorities and traditional leaders welcomed the project, describing it as a significant boost to the region's economy. The hub is expected to enhance local production, empower women, and contribute to Ghana’s export earnings.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, MPs from the region, local chief executives, party executives, and traditional authorities.
